In Catalan, the word joia means both “jewel” and “happiness”, which might give you a clue as to why this apartment is so called. If it doesn’t, then we’ll explain it all to you.
It’s hard to sum up in just a few words why Joia Pla de Palau is such a gem.
First there’s the unrivalled location, right in the heart of El Born, on the Plaza Pla de Palau, formerly the main square of commercial Barcelona. And there’s the listed building, an eclectic construction built in the historicist style in the mid-19th century using the same stone as the Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar, which lies just a few yards away from the apartment.
Then there’s the uniqueness of the space itself, an area of 200m² all to yourself and superbly distributed. Filled with light thanks to the balconies overlooking the square, the lounge is a diaphanous space that connects to a wonderful open-plan kitchen. The master bedroom, with its double bed bathed in light from the balconies, is linked to a private bathroom, a wall-to-wall wardrobe and a second eat-in kitchen to form a unique space that you can open out to the lounge if you wish. The second bedroom also has a double bed and second private bathroom with its own balconies.
There’s also the original décor and the warmth of the furnishings and fittings. Newly refurbished, the apartment is decked out with luxury materials and furniture, in keeping with the latest architectural trends. The urban art PASTE UP mural, which fuses techniques such as graffiti and wheatpaste, contrasts with the original 19th-century walls and ceilings, while the top-of-the-range kitchen even has a wine cellar. As for the armchairs, sofa and other furniture, you’ll see for yourself as soon as you walk in that nothing has been left to chance.
And finally, there’s the host of modern comforts: air conditioning, underfloor heating, lift, an allocated parking space, and the Lodging team at your service to organise everything you need.
And JOIA PLA DE PALAU is also happiness, because that’s how you’ll feel when you wake up every day.
And when you head out to explore the city, make the most of your location. The options are limitless.
Lose yourself in the narrow streets of El Born on a quest for medieval legends. Have a coffee or a beer and olives in one of the bars lining your street. Browse the craft and designer stores and pick up some unique pieces. Try the original drinks on offer in the area’s cocktail bars. Have dinner with your partner in one of its romantic restaurants. Visit the cultural hotspots nearby: Renaissance palaces, the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar (head up to the terraces for majestic views of the city), the Picasso Museum, the Chocolate Museum, and so much more besides.
You’ll have the support of the Lodging team the whole time, thanks to its 24-hour telephone service.

Welcome to Barcelona! We’re delighted to have you with us and we hope you have an amazing time staying in our flat. That being said, and at the risk of stating the obvious, here are some basic ground rules for you to follow.
We’re not the police, nor do we want you to feel like we’re patronizing you, but we think it’s our duty to point out some common-sense stuff, as we’ve had some experiences in the past with guests who haven’t behaved so well.
Respect the neighbors. Put yourself in their shoes and keep the noise down to a minimum after 10PM. You are on holiday, but they are probably stressed about their jobs and would appreciate a good night’s sleep. We want you to have fun but to be reasonable too, and to treat others how you would want them to treat you. Also, try to avoid slamming doors and making a noise in hallways. And please try to be quiet when entering the building. It’s not hard to be a good neighbor and annoying them is only going to get you into trouble, which is something you surely don’t need when you’re on holiday. You’re also not allowed to have more guests than you stated when making your reservation.
No parties! We get it – you’re excited about being in Barcelona. But remember: the walls are thin and if you’re having a party, then so are the neighbors. And they might not be in the mood for one. Bear in mind that they may call the police to complain, which is something we all want to avoid. Any guests causing a disturbance will be asked to leave the apartment immediately. And they won’t get a refund. Sorry!
Keys and check-out
Please do not leave the keys in the mailbox. If you leave earlier than your check-out time, please leave the keys on the table and pull the door shut behind you. Most flats have doors that don’t need to be locked when you leave. Incidentally, that’s something to watch out for, as it’s very easy to get locked out, which is also a bummer – take our word for it! Make sure you lock the door with the key every time you leave the flat. It’ll keep your belongings safer.
Do not smoke inside
NO smoking allowed in the apartment. We care about your lungs, but if you have to do it, please step outside. We’d like to keep the flat smelling nice and fresh for our next guests.
Do not waste energy
We kindly ask you to please turn the lights and air conditioning units OFF whenever you leave the apartment. We care about our planet.
Additional cleaning, bedding, etc. can be arranged for longer stays but please make sure you request this when booking.
