Every September, Barcelona's art scene steps into the spotlight. The Barcelona Gallery Weekend — now in its 12th edition, September 17 to 20, 2026 — brings together over 25 contemporary and modern art galleries across Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, presenting works from more than 50 national and international artists over four extraordinary days.
This is not a fair or a market. It is an immersive, city-wide celebration of contemporary art — and one of the most sophisticated cultural events on the Barcelona calendar. If you're an art lover, a collector or simply someone who wants to experience Barcelona at its most creative, Gallery Weekend is your moment.
The Barcelona Gallery Weekend is an annual open-doors event in which the city's leading contemporary and modern art galleries open simultaneously, presenting special exhibitions, performances, artist talks and guided tours — most of them free. It is organised by the Associació de Galeries de Catalunya and has grown, since its first edition, into one of the most respected gallery weekends in southern Europe.

For anyone with a passion for contemporary art, Gallery Weekend offers something increasingly rare: direct access. This is four days when you can walk into some of the most important galleries in the Iberian Peninsula, meet the gallerists, speak with artists and discover work that hasn't yet made it into the mainstream press.
The Flash Exhibitions are one of the defining features of the event — exclusive shows created specifically for the four days, visible nowhere else. For collectors and serious art lovers, these are unmissable.
Beyond the galleries, the parallel programme of talks, performances and guided routes turns the event into a full cultural experience that spans the entire city. September in Barcelona is warm, lively and far less crowded than summer — making it one of the best times of year to visit.
General exhibition programme The 25+ participating galleries present their main exhibitions for the season, with extended hours and special activities during the four days of Gallery Weekend. Ranging from painting and sculpture to photography, video art and installation.
Flash Exhibitions Thirteen special exhibitions created exclusively for Gallery Weekend. Available only from September 17 to 20 — impossible to see before or after. These are often the most talked-about moments of the event.
Guided tours with gallerists and artists A unique opportunity to visit galleries accompanied by the people behind them — the gallerists who curated the shows, the artists who created the work. These intimate visits offer a depth of access you simply cannot get from a standard gallery visit.
Performances and live events Artists and performers activate gallery spaces with live interventions, making the shows dynamic and unpredictable throughout the weekend.
Family programme Workshops, storytelling and interactive activities designed for families with children, making contemporary art accessible for all ages.
Guided neighbourhood routes Walking routes connecting clusters of galleries by neighbourhood — an ideal way to discover parts of Barcelona you might not otherwise explore.
Gallery Weekend galleries are spread across several of Barcelona's most interesting neighbourhoods. Here's where to base yourself:
Home to many of Barcelona's most established galleries, Eixample is the natural epicentre of Gallery Weekend. Apartments here put you within walking distance of multiple gallery clusters on Consell de Cent, Enric Granados and the surrounding streets. Excellent restaurants and transport links complete the picture. Best for: art collectors, first-time visitors, those who want everything within reach.
One of Barcelona's most creative and design-forward neighbourhoods, El Born has become a hub for contemporary art spaces and independent galleries. Charming medieval streets, excellent cocktail bars and some of the best boutiques in the city. Best for: design lovers, creative professionals, repeat visitors who know the city.
Home to the MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona) and the CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporània), El Raval is Barcelona's most artistically charged neighbourhood. Gritty, vibrant and full of character — with galleries, studios and creative spaces on almost every corner. Best for: contemporary art enthusiasts, solo travellers, those looking for something off the tourist trail.
A village-within-a-city feel, with an independent gallery scene that perfectly complements the Gallery Weekend spirit. Quiet squares, bohemian cafés and a local atmosphere that is very different from the tourist Barcelona. Best for: travellers who want an authentic neighbourhood experience alongside the art.
