THE SAGRADA FAMILIA
This Roman Catholic Church in Barcelona is probably the most significant building ever made by Gaudi and probably the Nº1 “must see” of Barcelona. This master piece was started in 1882 with the idea of combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms, that’s how Gaudi was called them. Antonio spent his last years working in this church but at the time he died in 1926 only a quarter of the structure was finished. Construction progressed slowly, as it relied on private donations and was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War, today it is stipulate to be finish in 2026, the centenary of Gaudi’s death.
GAUDI POINT OF VIEW OF THE BIBLE
Gaudi tried to explain the story behind the birth of Christ, using each centimeter of the church as a page of a book. Every detail has an explanation or a particular story combined with art Nouveau and modernism.
CASA BATLLÓ AND CASA MILÀ
These houses, now transformed into museums, are just another must see in your visit to Barcelona. Gaudi redesigned both houses in the earliest 1900’s, and transformed them in to a living work of art. With a strong influence of Japanese and Azteca art, Gaudi combined different styles creating one of his own. Just watching the asymmetric lines of the balconies in Casa Batlló will give you an idea of the rest.
